HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a ITS Project Engineer in our Miami, Florida office to support our growing transportation practice.
Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinate efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serve as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of <$1M.
Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Supervises and guides team to overall project objectives.
Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.
Assists with project management duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Prepare project plans and specifications related to ITS elements such as fiber optic cable systems, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras, Microwave Vehicle Detection System (MVDS) and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
Perform feasibility studies and concept design to support TSM&O initiatives and existing ITS device improvement and replacement projects
Design and implement gigabit Ethernet and fiber optic cable communications network
Design communications systems between field devices and central operations centers
Design highway and traffic signal systems, environmental sensors and speed detection systems
Develop and evaluate communication alternatives between field equipment and the traffic operations centers (gigabit Ethernet, fiber and wireless based systems)
Conduct ITS field reviews, data collection and analysis and preparation of satisfactory designs
Perform design calculations and conduct investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks, and direct preparation of design specifications
Perform quantity estimates, detailing and check calculations and drawings
Design signing and pavement markings related to ITS plans
Review ITS plans
Review ITS shop drawings
Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
6 years relevant experience
PE or AICP (depending on discipline)
Florida PE registration or able to obtain Florida PE within six months of employment
Design software experience with MicroStation (FDOT Plans Preparation Experience)
South Florida ITS design experience with local agency ITS project requirements such as District 4, District 6, MDX and FTE
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering
Focus in ITS design/Traffic Operations
Experience with System Engineering Processes and System Engineering documentation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent verbal communications skills
Strong writing skills including experience in technical reports and technical specifications development
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
