The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Resident Engineer in our Richmond, VA office.
Responsible for overall field management of HNTB's contract, administration and coordination on mid to large size projects of a diverse and complex nature. Monitors activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements. Provides technical leadership for complex or unique assignments. Reviews drawings, specifications, and installation of constructability. May recommend changes to design. Represents projects at meetings and conferences.
Reads and interprets complex contract documents.
Monitors Contractor progress and compares with reviewed Progress Schedule.
Provides guidance and training to inspection staff. Mentors and trains staff.
Administers JPIs and Budget.
Collects data to brief Client on project issues and provides possible resolutions.
Reviews and drafts responses to Contractors correspondence as required.
Prepares Summary Inspection Report of Daily Activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Verify inspection of the contractor’s work on the project by inspection staff
Conduct project meetings and prepare detailed minutes
Prepare and maintain a document management system
Review for contract conformance all laboratory test reports and certifications concerning materials required under the Contract and verify that all materials meet the contract requirements
Identify and monitor deficiencies and discrepancies
Obtain and submit materials and samples for testing to the DOT QA/QC Division
Prepare Change Orders
Prepare and monitor claims
Prepare accurate monthly construction estimates
Maintain as-built drawings and specifications
Conduct final inspections and prepare final inspection reports
Attend Public Meetings
Able to work a shift schedule and/or flexible schedules as required to support the workload, as well as in inclement weather, heights, confined spaces
10 years relevant experience
10 years experience in the construction of transportation projects.
Experience with drilled shaft construction preferred.
PE in DC, MD, or VA or the ability to get reciprocity within 6 months
Experience working with DDOT, CSX and WMATA is preferred.
Experience working with local utilities preferred.
Experience in DC and Virginia
Experience working on DC specifications, Virginia specifications
Experience with DC change order process
Experience working on bridges, roadway, heavy foundations, work alongside railroads, CSX, Metro
Experience managing inspectors
Strong computer skills
Aptitude towards business development alongside the project work
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
