The Senior Project Engineer will oversee the successful execution of the Arlington National Cemetery Southern Expansion Project, a high-profile and historically significant initiative to expand burial capacity, preserve heritage, and enhance public access. This position requires a combination of leadership, technical expertise, stakeholder management, and strategic planning.
This opportunity entails being responsible for coordination and monitoring of overall field construction administration activities and/or management engineering services on projects of a diverse nature in accordance with design specifications to assure that construction projects are completed in compliance with the drawings and specifications, within budget, and on schedule.
What You'll Do:
Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider broad range of engineering solutions.
Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience
What You'll Bring:
Project Leadership:
Serves as the primary point of accountability for all aspects of the project for the design team, ensuring it is completed to the highest quality standards.
Leads multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, environmental consultants, and subcontractors.
Resolves technical field issues, and coordinates with Architects and Engineers for timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
Planning and Coordination:
Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
Provides interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
Construction Oversight:
Monitors construction activities to ensure alignment with project designs and specifications.
Addresses and resolve any issues related to design promptly.
Oversees project controls.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with Arlington National Cemetery officials, federal agencies, local governments, and community groups to align project goals with stakeholder expectations.
Communicate progress, challenges, and milestones through regular updates and reporting.
Risk and Compliance Management:
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with environmental protection standards, historic preservation requirements, and sustainability goals.
Team Development:
Mentor and guide project team members to foster collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
What We Prefer:
USACE Experience
Knowledge of federal construction standards, particularly those related to military or national heritage sites.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project).
