HNTB Bridge and Structures Design Engineer E-III in Atlanta, Georgia

As a bridge and structures engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of technically challenging projects, from highway bridges, railroad bridges and structures, transit facility structures such as light rail and heavy rail people movers, and complex bridges.

This opportunity entails being responsible for the structural analysis, production, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager and department manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery. This position will leverage technical knowledge, experience, and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. The candidate is expected to be well experienced with typical structural analysis software and methodologies in developing conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using standard CAD software, technical tools, and other programs. This position may also include mentoring, training, reviewing the work of junior engineer staff, and providing constructive feedback. As a team member, you will contribute to the successful project delivery of a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Assist in the development of project specifications.

  • Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.

  • Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.

  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Independently progress the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.

  • Exhibiting experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation and/or AutoCad.

  • Exhibiting a thorough understanding of AASHTO LRFD, GDOT Bridge Design Manual, Bentley Bridge products, MathCAD, CSiBridge, and GDOT Bridge Software. Knowledge of the AREMA manual is also preferred.

  • Managing time and budget, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.

  • A detail-oriented engineer with a focus on quality, safety, and innovation

What We Prefer:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification in Georgia

  • Good background on GDOT Bridge design and delivery

  • Keeps an open mind and engages multiple perspectives on solving challenging problems, and actively promotes knowledge sharing

  • Actively engages in the pursuit of local and national projects and assists in the development of technical proposals.
