The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Communications Project Manager/Media Relationsin our Atlanta, GA office.

HNTB is seeking a Communications Project Manager to help lead communications initiatives for exciting transportation and transit programs that are bringing significant value to our region and state. Project work includes Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Xpress commuter coach service, and other transportation agencies.

Job Summary

Plans, develops, and leads public involvement strategies and programs for clients to facilitate communication and acceptance of projects and initiatives.

Essential Responsibility

  • Implements public involvement strategies and programs for clients to facilitate communication and acceptance of projects and initiatives. Ensures positive relations with various governmental and professional agencies, associations, and officials.

  • Directs the development of and approves speeches, presentation materials, correspondence, and other media for use in presentations, mailings and/or meetings.

  • Manages day to day operations of a staff who administer public involvement programs to promote unit presence in the marketplace consistent with the strategic plan and unit objectives. Implements quality assurance/quality control procedures to ensure a high quality of work.

  • Prepares and coordinates dissemination of facts and information about unit activities to external agencies, associations, and news organizations using print, radio and/or visual media in support of unit objectives and to promote awareness of unit products and/or services.

  • Identifies local and regional perceptions of the unit and its services, and makes recommendations necessary to improve perceptions.

  • Contracts with and manages sub-consultants for public/community relations, graphic design, and other outside work when needed.

  • Implements comprehensive communication programs to provide effective interface between the public and company and assist employees in serving as company ambassadors through local community and trade association involvement. Plans and coordinates community meetings including scheduling, determining location, and ensuring proper setup and materials are present.

  • Oversees compliance with rules and laws specifically outlined by state and federal regulations and those that may be requested by clients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Communications Director, the Communications Project Manager will oversee the communications team’s work on internal and external projects,

  • Communications and public outreach plan development and execution

  • Lead the strategic media relations efforts

  • Review schedules and budgets, and coordination with clients on communications activities

  • Assist with informational and promotional materials, social media campaigns, websites, public outreach events and correspondence with stakeholders and the public

  • Monitor performance metrics and gauging the effectiveness of campaigns and any office projects that include a communications component

  • Support and report to the Communications Director to successfully implement these communications programs

Day-to-day

  • Lead media relations activities for clients

  • Coordinate with team members on delivering materials, presentations, graphics, digital pieces, outreach initiatives and other client requests

  • Offer assistance and guidance on tasks, track schedules, and handle the review of plans and materials prior to the Communications Director final reviews

  • Responsible for keeping the communications team updated on all activities and facilitating coordination within the team

  • Responsible for managing documentation, budgets, schedules, sub-consultants, and programs for the communications team in coordination with other HNTB departments

  • Review the work of other team members for accuracy and completeness

  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with the Communications Director, group director and office leader on the progress of projects

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field

7 years related experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of management experience is preferred

  • Extensive experience serving as a spokesperson or leading media relations efforts for a large organization preferred

  • A proven track record of understanding how to monitor, track and analyze earned media data

  • Experience in crisis communications and media relations in a fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity of public transportation agencies including but not limited to MARTA and SRTA within the greater Atlanta region

  • Background in creating media press kits, presentations, executive-level messaging and event planning/execution

  • Experience securing local, regional and national media coverage through earned media tactics

  • Experience tracking industry trends and relevant news stories

  • Mastery of AP-style writing

  • Background in writing content for a variety of internal, external and digital mediums

  • Ability to develop internal/external communications plans with key tactics and budget considerations

  • Demonstrated experience in client and project management

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills

  • Communications and outreach experience in the infrastructure and transportation and transit sector is preferred

  • Experience in corporate and/or public sector communications and public relations, internal and external communications, strategic communications planning and execution, digital marketing, event planning, developing and managing public outreach initiatives and social media campaigns, developing and managing social media campaigns, writing a variety of collateral including but not limited to newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, articles, blogs, press releases, speeches, reports, and website and social media content, and assuring the success of communications programs

  • Proven ability to work with public sector owners/agencies to successfully launch and message new initiatives and programs to the general public and elected officials

  • Excellent written and verbal communications

  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team setting and independently with minimal supervision

  • Attention to detail and good organization skills

  • Good eye for copyediting, graphic design, layout and typography skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite experience

  • Experience with other programs including InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and WordPress is preferred

  • Master’s Degree in communications related field

  • Experience working in a firm or corporate environment

  • Background leveraging social media channels including Facebook,. Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.

  • Travel up to 10% of the time.

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
