HNTB Deputy Project Manager - Project Controls I in Atlanta, Georgia

What We're Looking For

Now is the time to join HNTB's Atlanta Office. The Deputy Project Manager - Project Controls is responsible for project controls associated with a project and assures client deliverables are high quality, on time, within budget, and meet or exceed the client’s expectations. Design Fees up to $50MM. Executes the project controls requirements for a project or program by providing technical and administrative direction, coordination, evaluation, training/coaching to a team of project control specialists, while defining and maintaining internal and external client-requested project control deliverables. Works closely with Project Manager, agency clients, sub-consultants and project stakeholders (including but not limited to agencies, utilities, regulatory agencies, etc.). Participates in weekly project cost and schedule review meetings. Typically reports to a Project Manager.

This role is full-time on-site at the Project field office and as needed at HNTB’s office at 191 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Serving as PMC’s on-site project controls representative as part of Owner’s onsite project management team (PMT)

  • Performing coordination/oversight of the PMT’s on-site project controls staff (including cost management, schedule management, and document control)

  • Working on large, complex transportation infrastructure and / or alternative delivery projects

  • Analyzing, interpreting, understanding and managing against project plan/drawing sets and specifications

  • Providing cost-schedule integration, and reviewing and analyzing payment-related and schedule submittals

  • Providing oversight and management of document control to ensure good project record

  • Developing of timely, accurate and thorough reporting including cost and schedule information

  • Supporting analysis and negotiation of construction claims including time impact analysis preferred

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • One or more of following AACE certifications: PSP, EVP, CCP, CEP, DRMP

  • Experience as a responsible lead (i.e., technical lead/managerial lead) in 2 or more of the following project controls functions: schedule management, cost management, and document control for either an owner’s representative or general contractor

  • 8+ years relevant experience

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develops cost control/scheduling and the Project Management Plan for the project or program.

  • Assists in or directs the preparation of specialty schedules, project labor forecasts, and cash flows.

  • Analyzes variances in cost and schedule performance against the baseline estimate and schedule and communicates reasons for variances to relevant management entities. Identifies trends and deviations and recommends corrective courses of action. Recommends solutions or recovery plans for schedule/cost impacts or delays.

  • Supervises the Document Control efforts of the project including the administration, filing, and archiving of engineering, procurement, and construction documents, reports, deliverables, invoices, and other project policies and procedures. This effort includes electronic sharing of documents between the HNTB Project Wise and Share-point systems and the client Document Control system.

  • Supervises the Cost Engineering efforts of the project to include preparation of cost report templates and monthly Cost and Change Management report deliverables.

  • Supervises the Scheduling efforts for the project to include the preparation and analysis of schedule baseline, progress schedules, specialty schedules, schedule analysis and integration of Earned Value Management system and project progress reporting.

  • Prepares DPM Design or PM for internal and external meetings providing backup documentation, data analysis,and reports to assist in the management of the project and dissemination of information/reports/deliverables to the PM, client, and stakeholders. Support the task leads in managing their effort in a similar manner.

  • Prepares, edits, and publishes reports in consistent, accurate and timely manner that reflect the current status of the project in formats acceptable to the client and stakeholders.

  • Creates, edits and publishes guidelines, manuals, and documents for use by Project staff including the Project Management Plan, Project Controls Manual, and Monthly Project Progress Reports.

  • Manages the implementation of project controls systems necessary to support the project in the manner deemed appropriate by HNTB and the client.

  • Leverages expertise from EDT staff to serve as a subject matter expert on all areas related to Document Controls, Cost/budget management, Scheduling and Earned Value Management activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Science, Finance or Business

  • 5 years Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) or Architecture & Engineering (A&E) project controls experience including scheduling, cost/budget control, and document control
