HNTB Transit Communication Engineer in Baltimore, Maryland

What We're Looking For

The time is right to join HNTB! We are seeking a Transit Communication Engineer in our Baltimore, MD office.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Transit communications systems design

  • Develop conceptual, preliminary and final electrical designs on communication systems projects

  • Perform system technical design of various communications systems including CCTV, Fiber Infrastructure, networking, telephone, WiFi, Access Control, PA, SCADA, public information displays

  • Perform field investigations and inspection and evaluate existing conditions on communications and security systems, including communicating design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers

  • Develop electrical design documents including: Plans, Technical Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for improvement projects and for Transit projects

  • Perform and review various design calculations, reports and construction submittal reviews

  • Design wayside cable plant and routing of conduits and duct banks

  • Review project documents for quality and accuracy

  • Prepare advertisement-ready packages in client standard formats

  • Serve as technical liaison with client for communications work

  • Support planning, design, and construction phases of projects

  • Maintain cost control and quality control for assign projects

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)

  • Experience with communications systems in a transit environment

  • Experience with fiber cabling infrastructure, networking, CCTV, security systems

  • Solid interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office products

  • Ability to obtain EIT within 1 year of hire and work toward PE certification

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 6 years relevant experience
