HNTB Construction Inspector / Field Safety Specialist in Bellevue, Washington

This is a hybrid position that will provide civil and/or structural inspection and field safety oversight for parking garage/transit projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare project management safety plan

  • Provide a daily report, both verbal and in writing, to the project’s Construction Safety Manager and the Resident Engineer on safety activities and work tasks

  • Monitor and document safety practices of the contractor for each work location

  • Review, comment and provide recommendations for each site safety plan and other safety submittals

  • Review, comment and provide recommendations for each contractor job hazard analysis

  • Review, comment and provide recommendations for each contractor accident/incident report and root cause analysis

  • Review and provide safety recommendations or corrective actions for each of the contractor’s construction work plans

  • Review the contractor’s daily safety report

  • Perform site safety surveillances to cross-check a job hazard analysis for a specific task or activity

  • Perform a monthly site safety documentation audit for each contractor to confirm all contract required documentation has been satisfactorily submitted

  • Prepare a combined weekly site safety report and email to the project’s construction safety manager and project manager

  • Attend weekly meetings to report and discuss all accidents, near misses, incidents, lost time accidents, reportable and non-reportable injuries, first aid reports, drug and alcohol testing, safety issues or concerns, and any or all safety-related topics

What You'll Do:

  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans. Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.

  • Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract.

  • Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.

  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.

  • Assists with reviews and checks calculations for Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.

  • Performs on-site material testing and assists with equipment maintenance.

  • Assists with as-built record drawings.

  • Assists with contract close-out documentation.

  • Assists in construction schedule reviews, contractor pay estimate reviews, and change order management.

  • Attends and participates in, as needed, project progress meetings.

  • Serves as field technical subject matter expert.

  • May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 10 years relevant experience, or

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 8 years of relevant experience, or

  • In lieu of degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, & Adobe, mobile devices such as tablet computers, and CM software programs.

  • Familiarity with engineering, architectural, and construction documents.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors.

  • Ability to anticipate problems, proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems, and discern when escalation is necessary.

  • Some flexibility to work hours dictated by the Contractor’s schedule

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

What We Prefer:

  • 10 years of relevant experience.

  • In lieu of degree, 14 years of relevant experience

The pay range for Washington is $117,306.60 - $183,479.55. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
