HNTB Mechanical Project Engineer in Bellevue, Washington

What We're Looking For

Responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

Mechanical Project Engineer

HNTB is looking for a candidate in the Mechanical and HVAC engineering field to join our team. The qualified candidate will join our local team providing support on national and international projects throughout HNTB. More than half of assigned work will be supporting HNTB national tunnel practice group of experts to contribute on rail and roadway enclosed vehicular facility projects such as subway stations and roadway tunnels. Candidate will support project engineering tasks from all over the country to analyze their existing or planned enclosed facilities and deliver infrastructure solutions. The qualified candidate shall have a PE license and experience in Mechanical and HVAC Engineering on commercial projects.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, calculations, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.

  • Collaborating with engineers, modelers and consultants on innovative tunnel and infrastructure projects

  • Work as part of a creative and specialized team to develop plumbing, ventilation, and HVAC solutions

  • Developing written reports, research papers, and PowerPoint presentations

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics and dynamics

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills

  • Good time management, ability to multi-task, and capacity to sustain focus on long tasks.

  • Proven ability to work with intermittent supervision

  • Experienced use of Microsoft Excel

  • Involvement/Familiarity with the codes and standards within the National Building Industry (IBC, IMC, NFPA, etc.)

  • REVIT Design Experience/Familiarity

The pay range for Washington is $99,039.51 - $154,907.95. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
