HNTB Senior Project Designer in Seattle, WA in Bellevue, Washington

What We're Looking For

We are looking for well-rounded architects with excellent technical and visualization skills and an interest in creating station hubs for sustainable transit networks to join our growing team in Seattle, where we will be opening a new office in the spring. For now, the home base is Bellevue, but the team is focused on projects in Seattle.

Ideal candidates would be team players able to utilize all forms of design communication tools and thrive in an interdisciplinary environment. We exchange ideas with planning, urban design, various engineering disciplines daily, focusing on the creation of a great transit experience for the future of the City of Seattle. We generate architectural solutions for technically complex problems and translate them into easily understood graphics for the team, our agency and city partners, and the public. While working within sometimes challenging urban environments, we search for ways to elevate the passenger experience in people-centered transit systems.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions Station Architecture and Joint Development

  • Collaboration with Engineers, Urban Designers, and Planners

  • Performing quick explorations with sketch models while remaining focused on the development of an identified solution over a longer duration.

  • Leading the team in thinking through the passenger experience of stations

  • Tackling a range of design scales and phases of work, from site planning to detailing, from concept through contract documents and construction administration.

  • Working with the team to create design presentations for public consumption and technical documents for the planning and engineering teams

  • Leading coordination of architectural design intent with client, sub-consultants, and the City.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provides interpretation of client’s goals and programs. Prepares design concepts consistent with client’s goals, budget and schedule.

  • Works closely with the project architect and protect manager in planning and implementing all work processes.

  • Mentors and works with other team members, including those with less experience.

  • Serves as subject matter expert on architectural projects of the largest size.

  • Reviews and supervises work of less experienced architects. May act in a team lead capacity in the absence of the manager.

  • Develops and presents design viewpoint on all projects. Ensures that a design solution, consistent with the program, budget and schedule is properly developed and produced.

  • Assists with the promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or Interior Design

  • 7 years related experience

  • RA/RID

What We Prefer:

  • 20 years or more of experience with complex, interdisciplinary projects

  • Experience with steel and concrete high-rise and mass timber construction

  • BIM 360 model management and coordination with multiple projects

  • Additional 3D software experience (Sketchup, Rhino, and/or 3DS Max)

  • Knowledge of rendering plugins such as Enscape

  • Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

  • Experience with managing the development of architectural specifications

  • Clear communication skills, including presentation skills

  • The ability to motivate, mentor and develop the talent in others

The pay range for Washington is $102,010.70 - $159,555.19. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
