HNTB Sr. Project Engineer - Stream Design Engineer in Bellevue, Washington
What We're Looking For
Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of $1-$2M.
Essential Responsibilities:
Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider broad range of engineering solutions.
Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

Primary Focus Will Include:
Leading stream restoration or fish passage correction projects in Western Washington
Stream hydraulics and hydrology, river geomorphology, stream restoration design for fish passage and river restoration projects
Applying Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) design standards and Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) guidelines
Overseeing and guiding Preliminary Hydraulic Design (PHD) and Final Hydraulic Design (FHD) documentation for WSDOT fish passage projects
Supporting preparation of Design-Build contracts for WSDOT
Facilitates and engages in project delivery at all levels as needed
Foster team performance and value delivered to the client
Providing technical guidance to staff
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
PE in State of Washington
Geomorphology/stream design experience on multiple fish passage or river restoration projects
Experience working with WDFW/Tribes, especially in Western Washington
Experience with habitat feature and stream bed design
Direct or support experience in preparing Water Resources environmental and habitat easements
Experience with HEC-RAS, SRH-2D

The pay range for Washington is $113,889.91 - $178,135.48. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
