HNTB Sr Scientist in Bellevue, Washington

What We're Looking For

Applies diversified knowledge and advanced scientific principles, theories, concepts and techniques of geology, hydrology, chemistry, biology or other related sciences to lead all phases of a project including planning, investigation, and recommendations.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Coordinating and conducting field work and studies for a variety of transportation and transit-related projects

  • Project work will focus on aquatic and fisheries sciences, wildlife habitat restoration and mitigation planning for Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance; and local, state, and federal permitting

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in wetland and stream delineation, vegetation monitoring, wetland mitigation, and Endangered and Threatened species consultation, as well as expertise in GIS analysis.

  • Registered professional wetland scientist with experience in wetland and stream delineation fieldwork and functional assessments on wetlands and streams

  • Experience managing and deploying GPS data collection efforts, running spatial and statistical analysis, and producing data and maps that are clear and concise.

  • Experience completing Joint Aquatic Resource Permit Applications (JARPA) and Washington State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) checklist development and other permitting and coordination efforts involving, Federal, State and local jurisdictions.

  • Strong technical writing skills.



What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervises staff in the collection and analyzing of data obtained at the proposed project site.

  • Examines and evaluates present and potential scientific conditions as they relate to the planning, design, and construction of projects.

  • Supervises the preparation of reports, graphs, and diagrams on scientific aspects relating to specific projects.

  • Provides technical support to project managers as situations arise during the construction of project that require scientific assistance.

  • Performs on the job review of work being accomplished to ensure the details of construction are in compliance with design criteria and scientific specifications and determines the necessity for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs.

  • Prioritizes, participates in marketing aspects and schedules new and on-going projects.

  • Prepares permits for public and private clients with respect to acquisition and compliance for wetland impacts, bridge construction, threatened/endangered species.

  • Assists in organizing, preparation of public meetings.

  • Attends various meetings with clients, other engineering firms and staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field

  • 10 years related experience

  • 8 years related experience (with Master's degree in Natural Sciences)
