HNTB Environmental Compliance Manager in Boston, Massachusetts
What We're Looking For
Develop plans and policies to meet with social economic, and physical needs of communities, including land use transportation planning, transit planning, environmental planning, development, public facilities, and parks and recreational facilities. Directs the technical production of planning assignments and teams. May serve as a Project Manager on a limited basis for select large scale projects. Oversee the work of less experienced staff. Direct, coordinate and review technical work performed by other project team members.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Construction oversight and review of contractor submittals to verify compliance with environmental permits and contract specifications.
Coordination with Army Corps, MassDEP and local Conservation Commissions on permit amendments/modifications and design change submittals during construction
Manage and track numerous open tasks with quick turnaround times to help ensure construction progresses without impact to the construction schedule
Field inspections and/or oversight
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Master's Degree in Planning or relevant field
Leed Accredited professional
RLA, RA, PE registration or AICP, CEP certification
10 years’ experience in wetland protection, erosion and sedimentation control, wetland monitoring, site drainage, stormwater management, and general site construction
Experience with construction Health and Safety Plans with hazardous material safety experience preferred
Experience with the various environmental regulations including the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, 401 Water Quality Certification, Chapter 91, and the Massachusetts Contingency Plan.
What You'll Need
Under minimal direction, performs a variety of more highly complex professional planning, environmental planning, landscape architecture and urban design project responsibilities, and leads technical tasks.
Writes and/or reviews major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for projects. Coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.
Leads, prepares, and reviews graphics, technical reports, work plans, scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for projects. Prepares and reviews budgets, invoicing, and billing.
Leads public and stakeholder engagement and presents information to the community.
Provides guidance and mentors staff.
Leads coordination with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
Recommends process and system improvements that result in greater efficiencies, enhanced capacities, and improved service delivery.
Supports department managers and office leadership with strategic planning, staffing/training, and other special projects.
May serve as project manager or task lead.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 10 years related experience
Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 9 yrs of relevant experience
Provides consultation on research approaches, evaluation methodologies, and conclusions to make recommendations to less experienced staff or clients.
Oversees the preparation of reports and provides consultation on structure and content, including conducting quality reviews. Presents and defends reports to audiences.
Manages client meetings and oversees preparation or meeting materials without oversight from others.
Ensures accountability by holding oneself and others responsible to meet project deliverables and other commitments.
Shows action oriented by taking on tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
Leads with courage by stepping up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said.
Makes quality and timely decisions that keep projects moving forward.
Directs work, delegates, and removes obstacles to get work done.
Creates a work plan with benchmarks to reach the overall goal.
Interprets key financial indicators and addresses issues when needed to achieve the project financial goals.
