HNTB Highway Engineer II in Boston, Massachusetts

What We're Looking For

HNTB’s Boston, MA office is seeking a Highway Engineer II to join our Highway design team.

Our team is working on some of the most complex projects in Massachusetts and Rhode Island serving a range of public sector clients. We are dedicated to enhancing our communities, solving infrastructure challenges for our clients and increasing mobility equity.

As a Highway Engineer II, you will coordinate and deliver transportation engineering projects within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. These projects can range from small intersection and multimodal corridor improvement projects to large interchanges, multimodal improvements, bridge reconstruction projects and/or design-build projects.

Duties include highway design, development of cost estimates, specifications, corridor modelling, and complete streets design. Our team’s approach is to confidently deliver performance on every project and deliver projects with quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.

  • Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.

  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.

  • Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience

Responsibilities:

  • Producing and delivering highway design projects from inception through construction phase services.

  • Assists task lead/project manager in preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final designs with supporting documentation.

  • Supports development of specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules.

  • Ability to work on multidiscipline projects.

  • Ability to prepare pavement designs, superelevation calculations, guardrail design etc.

  • Prepares roadway design elements including alignments, profiles and corridors in Civil 3D.

  • Prepares presentation materials for meetings.

  • Assists in preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public presentations and workshops.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experienced user of Civil 3D, including corridor development

  • Bluebeam Revu experience a plus

  • Technical knowledge of complete streets design

  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely and collaborative manner.

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering

  • 4+ years of professional engineering experience

  • Must have experience with MassDOT, RIDOT and/or municipal clients

  • Active engagement in local professional and/or civic organizations

  • Engineer In Training (EIT) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
