HNTB New Grad Transportation Planner I - May 2022 in Boston, Massachusetts

What We're Looking For

Our Boston, MA office is seeking a New Grad Transportation Planner for May 2022.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Support the interpretation of transportation-related data, such as: linked origins and destinations, travel times, and multi-modal accommodations, to provide network mobility analyses for all modes of travel that offers insight into the transportation issues and opportunities

  • Assistance in the development of creative roadway and multi-modal concept alternatives to meet project objectives that adequately consider identified constraints

  • Assistance with traffic and multi-modal transportation data collection and field work

  • Support the input, operation of, and interpretation of output from traffic analysis and simulation software

  • Drafting technical memorandums, reports, and preparation of exhibits, graphics, and appendices

  • GIS mapping and analysis

  • Adapting Complete Streets policy and design guidance to roadway and multi-modal design projects that is sensitive to the overall community context

  • Support of environmental analysis, documentation, and public engagement in accordance with the NEPA process

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field

  • Graduating in May/June 2022

  • Previous analytical experience with ArcGIS software

  • Previous analytical experience with Synchro and other traffic microsimulation software

  • Previous public agency or consulting firm internship experience

  • A working knowledge of roadway and multi-modal engineering design standards

  • Ability and interest in visually communicating transportation data and findings in an intuitive and engaging format

  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and engineering disciplines to develop project designs that support mobility for all users

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works from designs and plans of others, compile data, perform basic design and technical computations.

  • Applies recognized tools of analysis and provides comprehensive review of the data.

  • Researches and collects raw data and organizes in a form ready for analysis.

  • Assists in preparation of transportation plans and studies.

  • Assists in production of concepts, graphics and reports.

  • Assists in the development of presentation material, reports or report layout.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field
