HNTB Resiliency Planner in Boston, Massachusetts
What We're Looking For
Develop plans to meet the climate resiliency needs of communities and clients. Develops technical solutions and strategies for medium to large sized projects to ensure that the client’s technical requirements for all resiliency and sustainability aspects of projects are fully met. Regular task assignee on multiple projects. Responsible for proactively involving other project team members in development of solutions. Oversee the work of less experienced staff.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Informing the project development process specific to climate change adaptation and resiliency
Utilizing climate science data to inform project prioritization
Identifying near- and long-term climate associated risks at the local and regional level
Conducting project-level resiliency analysis for compliance with state and federal policies
Collaborating with offices nationwide to identify project-level solutions to climate related challenges
Communicating with various stakeholders including clients, regulatory agencies, advocates, and the public
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Master’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
Advanced understanding of climate science; especially sea-level rise projections
Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a non-technical audience
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Analyzes the design plan and identifies deliverables.
Compiles and analyzes data associated with multi-disciplines and proposes technical solutions. Collects raw data, organizes, researches, and applies recognized tools of analysis to provide comprehensive review of the data.
Prepares graphics, technical reports, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for planning projects.
Assists in the creation of project presentation materials, concepts, graphics, and reports to the client and community groups.
Coordinates and interfaces with other project team members during the course of a project.
Coordinates with clients on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks and to perform quality checks to ensure client requirements are met.
Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation. Conducts public meetings/hearings/community workshops and interfaces with client groups and community stakeholders.
May review budgets, invoicing, and billing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 4 years of relevant experience
Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience
Competencies:
Knows how to use Microsoft Project and client-specific programs without guidance from others.
Understands policies and procedures of the client processes (i.e., regulations, concept of final design, environmental procedure manual).
Functions as the Task Lead for simple projects with the ability to contribute to writing scopes and budgets with Project Manager oversight.
Gains an advanced understanding of environmental laws (i.e., NEPA, local, state and federal) and ensures legal compliance.
Applies knowledge to more complex documents, provides recommendations to clients, and ensures permits are completed, with oversight from more experienced staff.
Contributes to scope of work, budget, and schedule as part of task expansion or new proposals with guidance from more experienced staff.
Prepares environmental review documents for moderately complex transportation projects.
Functions as the Task Lead for environmental documents with oversight from more experienced staff.

Communicates effectively by developing and delivering communications that demonstrate a clear understanding of the project needs to the client and Project Manager.
