HNTB Project Engineer Traffic in Concord, New Hampshire

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining traffic scope, budget and schedule for the duration of the project. This candidate will be accountable for all required design aspects related to traffic engineering and the coordination of all work and quality control activities. Client interaction, developing relationships, assisting in the growth of the group, and project management support are also anticipated.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to project teams and oversees completeness and accuracy of the team's work.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Provides quality control on all project aspects.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Planning tasks including coordination with stakeholders to develop local and regional planning studies, completion of safety and capacity analyses, data management, development of traffic forecasts, and assessment of existing and potential safety improvements utilizing the Highway Safety Manual.

  • Design and implementation of traffic tasks including existing signal equipment field evaluation, signal plan development, use of the systems engineering process to design adaptive corridors, implementation of coordinated systems, placement of connected vehicle technology, development of project quantity and design estimates, design of signing and pavement markings, signal modeling and timing plan development, and development, selection, design and implementation of maintenance of traffic schemes.

  • Use of the Systems Engineering process to guide clients and staff through evaluating project needs, ITS equipment selection, design and systems management.

  • Participation in strategic planning and business development activities to support achievement of Traffic Section growth goals.

  • Coordination with clients and development of effective client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Master's degree is a plus

  • Experience in New England including ME, NH, VT

  • 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong presentation and writing skills

  • Experience with developing traffic models in VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra, HCS

  • Certifications including PE, PTOE, IMSA II, and LPA

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

  • Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.

  • Prepares high quality deliverables that are on time, and within budget and scope.
