HNTB Structures Project Engineer in Concord, New Hampshire

The time is right to join HNTB! Our growing New Hampshire office is seeking a creative and technically sound Project Engineer eager to work on some of the region’s most complex bridge projects. The ideal candidate will be motivated to grow client relationships in New Hampshire and Vermont, increase their own individual multi-discipline knowledge, and strengthen a core team of outgoing structural engineers – all while maintaining their ideal work/life balance. Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Collaborating and supporting the guidance of a multi-discipline team to achieve successful completion of small to complex projects throughout New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

  • Development and growth of junior staff.

  • Coordinating with clients to progress projects and build effective relationships.

  • Working alongside some of the region’s best engineers to prepare and/or check reports, plans, calculations, estimates, specifications, and designs for bridge projects and structural elements associated with roadway transportation projects.

  • Assisting with project management duties, including control of project quality, budget, and scope.

  • Organizing and executing a plan to deliver project scope requirements within the structural discipline, among a small team.

  • Supporting marketing efforts in pursuit of additional projects.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates

  • Responsible for cost control on projects and quality control within bridge discipline

  • Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties and coordinate schedules

  • Manage single and multi-discipline structural engineering projects and develop cost-effective design solutions

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring of project team members, including other engineers and technical support staff (CADD techs)

  • Lead a small team of engineers in the execution of project design and production on both small and large projects

  • Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications

  • Review and check engineering work completed by others

  • Oversee planning, design and construction phases of projects

  • Serve as technical liaison with client on project effort

  • Market to clients in pursuit of additional projects

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering

  • 8-10 years of design experience on NHDOT, VTrans, and/or MaineDOT bridge projects.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in New Hampshire (or ability to obtain)

  • Experience with bridge design software such as CSI Bridge, CONSPAN, RC-Pier, and, BrR

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, MathCAD, Microstation, OpenRoads, and OpenBridge

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • NBIS Inspection experience

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 6 years relevant experience
