HNTB Database Application Developer III in Dallas, Texas

What We're Looking For

Develops and/or configures complex software. Uses comprehensive knowledge of development languages, troubleshooting skills and data modeling. Works independently with minimal guidance.

HNTB is currently embarking on a journey to modernize our application, integration, and data platforms utilizing the Microsoft Azure cloud. This position, within our Enterprise Application Development team, will focus on design and creation of end-to-end solutions using Azure products & services like Azure App Service, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Synapse. With a goal of improving time-to-release of new capabilities for our business partners through a SDLC that embraces automation and CI/CD methodologies. This will include the transition of our current architecture to the cloud and building new application/data integrations in the process.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works primarily on projects of diverse scope and complexity including development and/or configuration of software.

  • Collaborates on requirements process. Designs complex system specifications. Plans and estimates activities needed to complete requirements.

  • Collaborates on code and architecture review processes.

  • Mentors Level I and II developers and participates in cross training.

  • Consults on support calls, applying in-depth knowledge and experience in identifying solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems

  • 4 years application development experience

  • In lieu of education, 8 years application development experience

  • Foundational understanding of Azure public cloud technologies and concepts

  • Practical experience designing and developing modern, loosely coupled applications for service-oriented enterprise.

  • Experience developing for the Microsoft ‘stack’, preferably deploying to Azure, but on-premise experience is also acceptable:

  • C#/.NET (including .NET Core), HTML/Javascript framework(s) for web front-end

  • Azure App Service, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Azure Functions

  • ASP.NET MVC & WebAPI patterns

  • Windows Server/IIS

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL.

  • Experience with event/message-based architecture and related patterns.

  • Experience building an automated CI/CD process, preferably with Azure DevOps

  • Familiarity with cloud security, infrastructure/scalability, monitoring, etc.

Business Skills:

  • Analytic Problem-Solving: Approaching high-level challenges with a clear eye on what is important; employing the right approach/methods to make the maximum use of time and human resources.

  • Effective Communication: Detailing your techniques and discoveries to technical and non-technical audiences in a language they can understand.

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Exploring new territories and finding creative and unusual ways to solve problems.

  • Data Analysis Knowledge: Understanding how data is collected, analyzed, and utilized.

Other Preferred skills:

  • SQL (Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL flavors)

  • Python

  • Azure infrastructure provisioning (ex. ARM) and storage options (blob storage, data lake, etc.)

  • Familiarity with legacy Microsoft platforms like VB6 & ASP, ASP.NET WebForms in support of cloud-migration is a plus
