HNTB Sr. Project Manager - Aviation in Denver, Colorado

What We're Looking For

Exciting leadership opportunity in Aviation at HNTB. Responsible for the leadership and management of team in support of a project’s successful delivery and profitable operation. Responsible for proactively managing the projects technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Responsible for gross revenue of $10M-30M.

Primary Focus will include:

Project Management

  • Actively manage project scope, schedule and budget, with responsibility for delivering complex projects at airports, including coordination and oversight of multiple disciplines.

  • Exercises independent judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired results, and make recommendations that may affect project policies and procedures.

  • Present project concepts and solutions to clients in settings ranging from informal to formal, with the ability to respond to questions, comments, and criticisms in a positive manner.

  • Analyze problems and perform needs assessments. Solve complex project challenges and problems. Refer exceptions to policy and procedures to supervisor.

  • Coordinate and supervise work efforts and reviews of work performed by a project team to assure completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Supervise and guide team to overall project objectives

  • Perform quality reviews of work performed by others, implementing HNTB’s prescribed Quality Management System policies and procedures

People Development

  • Supervise and mentor team to achieve project and department objectives.

  • Assist supervisor and office leadership with hiring, supervising, developing and evaluating performance of staff members.

  • Oversee and forecast project staffing in coordination with department, office and division as appropriate.

Business Development

  • Conduct frequent client contact at all levels. Serve as liaison with client and exercise the ability to discover client needs and guide project development to meet those needs.

  • Utilize HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) to identify and win new work.

  • Develop and negotiate project scope and fee quotations,

  • Make decisions that may steer multiple work groups, disciplines, or offices in coordination with supervisor, office management, and other leadership personnel as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with airport design, planning, and construction, preferably at large or medium hub airports, airside and/or landside

  • Ability to perform tasks and duties with limited supervision, within the scope of general processes, policies and procedures.

  • Professional Engineer (Civil) registration in WA, OR, CO and/or CA, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in MS Office suite. Proficiency with MS Project or other scheduling software a plus

  • Commitment to quality. Experience performing QA/QC reviews a plus

  • Positive professional relationships with airport and/or FAA personnel, preferably in FAA NW Mountain Region

  • Experience with proposal/SOQ development and/or client interviews

  • Ability to accommodate occasional domestic travel (10%)

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Provides oversight and monitoring of work to less experienced project managers. Coordinates work efforts and review work performed. Schedules and manages for integration of quality management during all phases of a project.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 16 years relevant experience

  • 6 years project management experience
