HNTB Engineer III - Bridge Design in Des Moines, Iowa

What We're Looking For

Looking for a new challenge? Join our new Des Moines office and work with a fantastic team to grow our bridge practice in Iowa and across the Midwest. We are looking for someone who is a problem solver, self-driven, and works well within a team. Within the bridge discipline, this person is fully competent in the completion of engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On a task basis, they are responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. They may assist in coordination of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Structural analysis, design and detailing of highway and railroad bridges and other transportation related structures

  • Develop project design criteria, quantities and cost estimates

  • Assist in the development of project scope with a project engineer or PM

  • Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties and coordinate schedules

  • Provide technical guidance to project team members, including other engineers and technical support staff (CADD techs)

  • Participate in the execution of project design and production on both small and large projects

  • Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications

  • Review and check engineering work completed by others

  • Participate in planning, design and construction phases of projects

  • Market to clients in pursuit of additional projects

  • Follow and achieve project scope, schedule and budget

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • PE

  • 5 years of relevant experience - Iowa DOT experience preferred

  • Experience in traditional and alternative project delivery

  • CSiBridge or other structural analysis program experience a plus

  • MicroStation and Blubeam Revu experience a plus

  • Active engagement in local civic and professional organizations

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
