HNTB Project Manager II - Highway Design in Des Moines, Iowa

What We're Looking For

Are you looking for a new, exciting opportunity? Join our Des Moines, IA office and be an integral part of growing our transportation practice in Iowa and across the Midwest. We are looking for a highly creative and motivated engineering project manager with Iowa DOT experience to lead the planning, design and construction of highway transportation projects. The candidate will be responsible for the leadership and management of multi-disciplinary project teams to successfully deliver for our clients. This includes proactively managing project budgets (direct labor and expenses, including subconsultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. While the primary focus will be highway transportation projects with Iowa DOT, the candidate will have the opportunity to support other disciplines and highway, toll, and municipal clients as part of our growing Iowa and Midwest transportation practice.

In addition to Essential Responsibilities, Primary Focus will include:

  • Manage, design and deliver complex transportation infrastructure projects.

  • Collaborate with clients, other disciplines, and stakeholders for the successful delivery of projects.

  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Proactively identify, pursue and win key pursuits.

  • Supervise, coach and mentor engineering staff.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • PE

  • Relationships and experience managing complex transportation infrastructure projects with Iowa DOT

  • Experience in traditional and alternative project delivery.

  • Extensive experience working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering environment

  • Active engagement in local professional and civic organizations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Master's Degree in Engineering

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 12 years relevant experience

  • 4 years project management experience
