HNTB Engineer III - Roadway Design in Glen Allen, Virginia

What We're Looking For

The time is right to join HNTB! We are seeking an Engineer III - Roadway Design to join our Virginia Beach, VA or Richmond office.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Preparing designs and related documentation for transportation infrastructure projects.

  • Supporting diverse design activities focusing on highway geometry, maintenance of traffic, transit facilities and parking facilities.

  • Direct interface and coordination with professionals working in related technical disciplines for the design of traffic appurtenances, drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, utilities, electrical systems and tolling infrastructure.

  • Responsibility for completion of work products such as reports, designs, specifications, plans and estimates.

  • Supporting Senior Engineers and Project Managers with input to schedules, estimates to complete work and application of quality management protocols.

  • Fulfilling other duties, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of MicroStation, Geopak SS10 and/or ORD software

  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated ability to apply AASHTO and VDOT design guidelines, policies, and practices to address complex design challenges

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to deliver high quality work and contribute to a positive work environment

  • Experience delivering transportation infrastructure design projects in Virginia, Hampton Roads and also in Maryland or DC

  • Experience supporting design-build and/or P3 projects

  • Interest and complementary experience in drainage and/or utility design

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software

  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Virginia, and Maryland or DC, or ability to acquire license within six months of hire

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
