HNTB Planning and Technical Services Group Lead in Golden Valley, Minnesota

What We're Looking For

HNTB is seeking a multidisciplinary planning project manager to lead multiple, medium-sized, urban mobility, complete streets, transit, and/or transportation planning projects. We seek a professional who can win and deliver work while also building a strong and cohesive urban mobility team and contribute to a positive office culture. Our local team works on projects across the Midwest and the U.S. and the right individual will support offices across the firm but will be focused on the Midwest and local Minnesota market.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).

  • Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Leads or actively participates in client contract scoping and negotiations.

  • Leads and prepares design documents, technical plans, written reports on projects

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Responsible for/oversees project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.

  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini-mega and mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.

  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.

  • Typically responsible for management of project team(s) for one or more strategic (<$1M) or mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) projects, or may lead and/or work as a discipline lead on a mega ($5M to < $25M) project management team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field and 10 years relevant experience

  • 2 years of successful management of projects

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Directs the technical production of planning projects, assignments and teams.

  • Coordinates with designers and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning, urban mobility or transit projects to ensure that the client's technical requirements of projects are fully met.

  • May serve as task lead on multidisciplinary projects.

  • Assists leadership with implementation of office-wide technical standards and maintenance of technical resources.

  • Directs the development and execution of engagement plans

  • Develops and delivers significant portions of presentations and public facilitation.

  • Oversees the work of less experienced staff. Assists in directing teams for medium to large scale projects

  • Develops and grows strong client relationships.

  • Identifies transportation planning opportunities with foundation clients.

  • Prepares scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFPs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • AICP Certification

  • Master's degree in Business, Project Management, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field.

  • American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), Registered Architect (RA), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP),

  • 12 years relevant experience
