HNTB Architectural Structural Engineer - PE (3 years plus) in Kansas City, Missouri

This position provides technical experience in structural engineering for architectural projects to serve the structural engineering efforts through all phases of HNTB’s complex building projects. Performs structural engineering tasks such as research for code and project criteria, design calculations, and detailing and design for buildings. Creates analysis models, hand calculations, drawings and performs design engineering during all phases of design, including construction administration.

Projects include nationally significant and challenging Sports, Aviation, Government, Rail and Transit building structures for HNTB’s growing and diverse Architectural practice.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Structural engineering analysis and design of building structures including sport facilities, airport facilities, transit facilities and more in support of HNTB’s national architectural practice.

  • Responsibilities include structural engineering analysis and design of framing and foundation systems for steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, and wood building frame systems.

  • Collaborates with structural engineering peers and teammates to leverage experience and learning to enhance the creativity and success of the structural practice.

  • Develops creative structural design solutions from concept design through final design.

  • Coordinates and works with structural engineering project teams including other structural engineers and BIM technicians.

  • Construction phase responsibilities include structural engineering services for response to construction questions, review of contractor submittals and construction site observations.

  • HNTB’s project types offer excellent opportunities to grow as a structural engineer by working on complex and high profile projects with experienced architectural and structural teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with primary focus on structures required.

  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with primary focus on structures preferred.

  • 3-4 years related experience

  • PE required

  • SE preferred

  • Software skills: Analysis software (i.e. RISA, ETABS, SAP 2000, ADAPT, etc.)

  • BIM Skills: Revit

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads and performs structural engineering tasks, such as research for code and project criteria, design calculations, quantity estimates and detailing.

  • Leads or assists with preparation of design drawings and/or specifications and construction phase engineering tasks under the supervision of senior engineers.

  • Technically involved in the design of building structures that may include performing detailed checking of engineering work done by others or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

  • Serves as a lead in scheduling and checking work of project team members.

  • Communicates and coordinates with other project team disciplines.

  • Conducts investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering

  • 3 years related experience

  • EIT

  • Revit skills
