Overview

The time is right to join HNTB! We are seeking candidates for the position of Drainage Engineer III in our Design Build Delivery Group in our Kansas City, MO office to support our growing Design/Build practice. This group is responsible for managing and designing some of the largest and most significant projects in the country. HNTB’s Design/Build Delivery Group provides design, production and technical expertise for the successful delivery of these high profile projects.

Comfortable in a fast paced work environment that will include coordination with other team members on large, multi-discipline jobs, direction of younger engineers, implementing appropriate criteria and procedures, checking, overseeing plan production, and some interaction with clients? Job Summary

Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conducts design and constructibility reviews of plans

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with preparation of weekly and monthly program updates and reporting

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies

  • Coordinates with construction observers, consultant engineers, utility coordinators, and right of way coordinators

  • Conducts reviews and makes recommendations of approval of potential construction change orders, utility agreements, and construction & utility pay estimates

  • Updates and maintains master schedule for the program

  • Conducts hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to develop complex drainage designs for transportation projects

  • Develops detailed drainage design plans and specifications

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

5 years relevant experience

EIT

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Master's degree in Engineering

PE

Experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic design, and the common methods and criteria associated with this type of work

Experience with Highway/Railroad Drainage design

Proficient with InRoads Storm & Sanitary and HEC-RAS

Familiarity with GEOPAK, PondPack, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and other common drainage tools a plus

Ability to progress multiple tasks at the same time

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
