HNTB National Architecture Leader in Kansas City, Missouri

What We're Looking For

Establishes and maintains overall vision for growth, profitability, and quality for HNTB’s National Architecture practice. In partnership with practice market and design leadership, is responsible for establishing long-term strategic plans for core and emerging market growth, multi-discipline service growth and overall efficiency of operations and overhead management. Duties are largely strategic in partnership with HNTB leadership with direct pursuit and client involvement encouraged where appropriate to personal market experience and relationships.

Responsible for sales, revenue, earnings, and cash management across the US. Responsible for overseeing the architecture practice engagement with HNTB’s aviation and transit infrastructure clients across the firm and our professional and collegiate sports clients nationally.

The Architecture practice includes major design and delivery studios across the firm in major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, Denver, Kansas City and New York; This position will work directly with the market, design and studio leaders. The practice includes interiors and structural engineering to provide full services to our clients.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Responsible for the profitable operation of an office through direct leadership of all aspects of business practice including but not limited to, business development strategy, client strategy and oversight, overhead management, and oversight of office operations. Responsible for acquiring and signing contracts and serving as the firm’s responsible contact with specific clients along with expanding existing and new client relationships.

  • In addition to office overhead management internal to the Office of Architecture, will also be responsible for the management and strategy of firmwide overhead resources supporting architecture through close collaboration with division and firmwide leaders within but not limited to marketing, PR communications, technology development and the overall vision of architecture brand awareness in the industry.

  • Ensures the achievement of short and long-term goals for workforce planning, strategic hiring and team building philosophy internally and externally. Attracts experienced team members who bring client relationships, strong technical and design credentials, and an overall respected reputation in the industry.

  • Acts as Practice builder providing leadership in planning and directing a strong, healthy and inclusive culture of collaboration and delivery based upon the principles of leadership and empowerment; particularly around the aviation market for terminal design, planning and PMCM. Must work closely with and empower Design Directors to establish the highest quality of design process and product in the competitive market through continued investment in differentiating design thought leadership and process improvement research.

  • Builds the HNTB Architecture brand across the firm with the infrastructure offices and geographic divisions.

  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, development, evaluation, and termination of staff members, as well as establishing and approving budgets for the group.The number of employees directly supervised is typically 4 or more.Traveling to the studio locations to meet with clients and the staff on a regular basis is expected.

Compensation Range:

$245,126 - $391,565

  • Acts as Practice Builder to provide leadership in planning, directing and implementing an aggressive marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to get additional work.

  • Serves as client/project manager for major clients and provides leadership to staff assigned to the projects.

  • Builds a strong and effective team based upon the principles of leadership and empowerment.

  • Attracts experienced staff members, who bring client relationships, strong technical credentials, and a solid reputation.

  • Manages/expands existing client relationships and pursue new client relationships.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15 years related experience
