HNTB Project Manager II - Rail Transit in Los Angeles, California

What We're Looking For

An exceptional Rail Project Manager to join the growing downtown Los Angeles Office. The ideal candidate will have experience leading design and supporting construction of rail projects. Experience may be on light, heavy, high speed, commuter or freight rail projects. Current projects assignments include all modes.

Responsible for the leadership and management of team in support of the office’s profitable operation. Project Manager will proactively managing the project's technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Project design budgets range from $100,000 -$5M.

Primary focus will include:

• Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PSE) for rail project. Project deliverables include Preliminary Engineering, Final Design and Construction Support.

• Project Manager oversees development of deliverables by technical team who will be using Power Rail, Microstation, AutoCAD and other design software.

• Conducts quality reviews of deliverables following HNTB’s QA/QC Process.

• Knowledgeable of local, state and federal rail design criteria such as MRDC, SCRRA Criteria, comparable local agency criteria, CPUC and FRA standards.

• Conducts interdisciplinary coordination with civil, systems, structures, electrical and other groups.

• Participates in marketing efforts for new work including project pursuits and technical responses in proposals.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• PE, California preferred or ability to obtain PE in California

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 12 years relevant experience

  • 4 years project management experience
