HNTB Verification & Validation Rail Specialist in Los Angeles, California
What We're Looking For
Due to their growing complexity, it is more and more challenging to both accurately analyse and ensure a railway project’s overall safety and deliver the project in line with international railway standards for performance, reliability and functionality. To do so requires interdisciplinary expertise and a knowledge that goes beyond technical safety into operational safety and railway best practices.
The Verification and Validation (V&V) Specialist checks the overall railway project throughout the whole lifecycle to confirm that it complies with all the specified railway requirements and standards for Safety, RAM, Functionality and Quality. This is achieved through the adoption of a structured process that checks whether the design is properly validated and verified and is in compliance with the project’s requirements.

This opportunity entails being responsible for providing guidance and direction in area of expertise and functional discipline. This position supports the technical aspect of project development and delivery including proposal development, scope implementation and change management. Responsible for applying advanced engineering methods, techniques, and analyses to provide solutions, make recommendations and resolve issues. Ensures industry and HNTB standards of design are applied consistently and effectively across projects ranging in discipline, size and complexity. Independently applies knowledge and experience in partnership with internal project team members and external client counterparts. Serves as an advisor on complex projects to provide technical designs, plans and specifications
What You'll Do:
Performs independent technical reviews, makes recommendations, and provides technical guidance as requested on complex or unusual engineering projects. Provides direction to resolve technical issues as requested.
Provides technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring/support to production staff.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
Coordinates technical aspects with client counterpart and teaming partners at local leadership level for work within and across disciplines on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Develops and advises on technical consistency within and across disciplines on processes and projects.
Ensures same standard and practices are being applied.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 11 year of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience
What You'll Also Do:
Demonstrate leadership and management in the area of Verification and Validation processes required to demonstrate the achievement of specified functional and interface characteristics of all high-speed rail systems and the verification required to demonstrate achievement of specified performance as documented in the plans, specifications, Systems, and Sub-systems design documentation and a refined testing and acceptance strategy
Provide oversight of adherence to specific project QC plans and monitor correct action directives necessary to comply with the QC plans
Provide technical information and professional advice, for design or field issues that develop during the course of a project and wider programme
Manage and supervise QA staff and sub-consultants in the implementation and execution of the QA Program, project site inspections, QC reports, QC metrics, and other related project support duties
Assist in developing and maintaining metrics for QC compliance and analytics
Assist with the development and deployment of project QA/QC standards, best practices, policies, and procedures
Utilize Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM) to track and trace technical contract requirements
Utilize IBM Rational Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) software for requirements management as specified in the California High-Speed Rail V&V contract requirements
Contribute to the design phase charrettes and advisor on potential constructability and quality issues during the construction phase
Act is the liaison between the current civil works and the future stations, track and rail systems and rolling stock packages to ensure integration and constructability
What We Prefer:
10 plus years of V&V, system engineering and constructability experience for large rail projects
BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, a relatable field, or equivalent work experience
Training and experience in Verification & Validation and Systems Engineering

The approximate pay range for California is $152,983.53 - $277,700.33. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
