HNTB Planner II in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

What We're Looking For

Join HNTB's planning group in Milwaukee or Madison where you will help our clients deliver large and innovative transportation projects throughout Wisconsin, the Midwest and beyond. Assist with a wide range of planning studies for transit, rail and roadway projects. Help the planning team coordinate with local, state and federal government agencies and work with the public and stakeholder groups. Work in an office rated as one of the 'Best Places to Work' in 2020, 2021 and 2022 by the Milwaukee Business Journal and help us solve unique problems with creative solutions. Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Assist task leads and project managers on multiple transportation projects.

  • Help implement methodologies and technical solutions for planning projects.

  • Coordinate with team members from multiple discipline areas.

  • Assist with technical reports and planning documents.

  • Analyze alternatives, evaluate impacts/benefits of projects and make recommendations.

  • Conduct public engagement activities, develop content for public feedback and make presentations. Organize the logistics of meetings and activities

  • Work with local, state and federal government agencies.

  • Help advance projects through the transportation project development process.

  • Assist with the development of environmental analyses and documents following NEPA

  • Gathering data to assist with environmental and transportation analyses, including demographics along with other social and natural resources

  • Writing reports and memos for review by senior staff

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.

  • Demonstrates strong analytical, writing and communication skills.

  • Has pride in completing quality work and a strong desire to meet the needs of clients.


What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.

  • Identifies planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios and perform project analysis.

  • Investigates and evaluates the planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.

  • Coordinates internally and externally with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.

  • Prepares maps, exhibits, and presentation materials for projects.

  • Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning.

  • Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.

  • Drafts sections of and performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.

  • May participate in public process and stakeholder facilitation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 2 years of relevant experience

  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 1 year of relevant experience
