This opportunity entails being responsible for performing routine technical work in both field and laboratory settings. Archaeologists will take a hands-on approach using established methodologies and procedures to collect and document archaeological data. Produces and interprets technical reports to greater project team. Leads the analysis of archaeological collections in laboratory using established protocol. May mentor and oversee work of earlier career Archaeologists.
What You'll Do:
Serves as a subject matter expert on archaeological survey/inventory, test excavation, or data recovery excavation that complies with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards of Research Performance.
Responsible for planning, implementation, and reporting of archaeology projects.
Responsible for project-level management of cultural resource or resources investigation. Accountable to regulatory agencies and professional and tribal stakeholders to wisely use and protect a non-renewable resource(s). Analyze and report the findings and ensure curation of any collections per federal or state regulations.
Directs archaeological investigations in accordance with applicable state/federal guidelines.
Prepares technical reports in accordance with established guidelines.
Reviews and evaluates technical reports prepared by others.
Provides technical advice and assistance regarding impacts to archaeological resources.
Keeps current with trends, literature, and new developments in the field of archaeology.
Serves as a mentor to junior staff.
Attends various meetings with clients, agencies, other firms, and staff.
Prepares cost estimates and proposals. May participate in marketing efforts and business development.
May participate in professional organizations and conferences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Master's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field and 5 years professional experience as Principal Investigator.
Meets Secretary of the Interior's Standards in Archaeology.
What You'll Bring:
Serves as principal investigator/project manager on projects of increasing complexity by managing crews in the field, supervising work, and providing technical oversight for less experienced staff while being legally responsible for the archaeology conducted on the project. May sign off on project documentation.
Writes and/or contributes to reports and may serve as lead or sole author for more complex projects. Responsible for deliverables for the field work, ensures accuracy of documentation and reporting, and determines NRHP recommendations.
Provides guidance and decision making on complex situations and knows when to escalate to other resources on the most complex projects.
Assists the client with navigating the various state and federal regulations for more complex projects.
What We Prefer:
- Experience serving as Principal Investigator on Phase I, II, and III investigations
