HNTB Intern Engineer – Summer 2020 in New York, New York

What We're Looking For

Our New York, NY office is seeking Intern Engineers for Summer 2020 in the following areas: bridge design, bridge inspection, mechanical, traffic, and project management.

Relocation and housing are not provided for these positions.

Primary Focus Will Include:

Bridge Design Intern

  • Perform basic engineering calculations

  • Organize information for use in drawings or other documents

  • Assist other engineers in various tasks and duties

Bridge Inspection Intern

  • Perform road and bridge inspections

  • Provide inspection work to monitor engineering plans and specifications

  • Perform mathematical calculations

  • Keep daily diaries of inspections

Mechanical Intern

  • Assist in preparation of proposals and contracts

  • Project communications and documentation

  • Perform basic engineering calculations

  • Coordinate work efforts with others

Traffic Intern

  • Organize information for use in drawings or reports

  • Collect, organize and summarize transportation data.

  • Assist in the development of micro-simulation models appropriate to specific project needs

  • Completes safety studies, signal optimizations, and capacity analyses

Project Management Intern

  • Read and comprehend contract documents

  • Documentation of contract cost and schedule impacts

  • Preparation of cost comparisons using Microsoft Excel

  • Support of project closeout processes

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of 2 years of post-secondary civil (or mechanical) engineering program

  • Previous internship or co-op experience

  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Interest in transportation projects

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.

  • Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.

  • Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
