HNTB Project Cost Analyst in New York, New York

What We're Looking For

HNTB is hiring! Our New York City office is seeking a Project Cost Analyst to help support large transportation infrastructure projects.

Works closely with office/project business managers, project controls staff, and project managers to support 4 for 4 performance on projects thru the project lifecycle in areas of marketing, contracting, and delivery. Performs project analysis and coordination, tracking & reporting, accounting month-end coordination, and cash management duties on assigned project(s). May support multiple project managers, departments and offices. Generally assigned to smaller/low risk projects ($5MM or less) or assists in supporting larger/complex projects.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Responsible for leading all financial and analytical aspects for the lifecycle of a project from the proposal phase to close out.

  • Responsible for set-up of budgetary control systems and documentation for a project in accordance with contract and firm/office policies.

  • Coordinates with project managers in correlating work plans and translating WBS structure into accurate and manageable project budgets and forecasts.

  • Prepares custom cost trend/forecast reports, and monitors costs and revenues against budgets/forecasts and billings.

  • Coordinates information supplied by legal services, risk management, external audit, and project teams for contract compliance.

  • Facilitates project cost proposal process, including assessment of cost components and overall profitability.

  • Participates in monthly project reviews. Reports deviations and risks impacting 4for4 delivery, works with team to identify and track actions and solutions.

  • Provide information/guidance to project teams regarding office/corporate workplan, contracting, and revenue recognition policies.

  • Facilitates preparation of subconsultant agreements and provides guidance on compensation and invoicing requirements.

  • Provides month-end assessment and review on project performance including earnings ,estimate to complete, and revenue and labor forecasting variances and revenue backlog discrepancies.

  • Prepares custom reports and data analysis as requested.

  • Assist with all internal and external audit requests

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Project Management Certification, Other Contracting or Project Management Certifications

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Intermediate to Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong conceptual, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Ability to delegate work to supporting team members

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task

  • General knowledge of project management processes, understands basics of A/E Industry



What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensures financial integrity and transparency by adhering to and monitoring compliance to internal and external governance requirements (HNTB policies and procedures, Client requirements, Industry standard accounting requirements and Government requirements).

  • Analyzes contracts, reports, and, key metrics to provide project assessment to team members in areas of budget, profitability, earnings variances, cash flow, and select contract compliance requirements/metrics. May create tools/independent spreadsheets to help analyze burn rate/earned value, earnings variances, cash projections, and other key project performance metrics.

  • Provides input to the overall Project Management Plan in areas affecting cost and profitability, includes communicating project specific contract guidelines and/or procedures to project teams and ensuring adherence to those items.

  • Assist project managers/other team members with proactive financial review/analysis and documentation for project review meetings. Communicates relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) affecting project performance. May document meeting minutes/relevant actions items from review meetings.

  • Assists with effective cash management by creating and/or maintaining cash flow management plans.

  • Assists project team members with the procurement process. Assists in review of contracts/request for proposals (RFPs) under guidance from other team members. Reviews and provides risk and opportunity information using historical client/project data and research.

  • Facilitates and assists in preparations and review of cost proposals and corresponding profitability review. Provides financial review of fee proposals.

  • Gives guidance/training to Project Management Staff/other office personnel on HNTB Processes and best practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering or relevant degree

  • 2 years’ experience in financial/project analysis or similar position

  • In lieu of education, 6 years of relevant experience in Architectural/Engineering or similar industry only
