HNTB Rail Communications Project Engineer in New York, New York

What We're Looking For

Responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering performance requirements, design criteria, plans (conceptual and detailed) and specifications for a diverse range of assigned projects for HNTB’s clients. This position consults with the project manager to perform calculations, design and delivery and includes periodic interactions with clients. Applies engineering techniques and procedures for complex and cross-discipline projects. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule and with minimal direction.

  • Responsible for preparation and completion of communications engineering designs that are responsive to project needs

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 6+ years experience with NY Metro area transportation agencies

  • Communications engineering experience:

  • Fiber optic cabling design 5+ years required

  • Category X cabling design (TIA-568/569) 5+ years required

  • Networking design 5+ years required

  • Video systems design 5+ years required

  • Access Control design 3+ years required

  • Intercom design 3+ years required

  • Public Address design 3+ years required

  • Electronic Customer/Passenger Information Signs design 3+ years required

  • Ticket Vending Machines (PCI Security Standards) design 3+ years required

  • NY Professional Engineer (required or ability to obtain within 1 year)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Engineering

  • Communications engineering experience:

  • Public / Private Wi-Fi design (3+ years preferred)

  • Fire Alarm design (3+ years preferred)

  • Elevator / escalator communications systems design (3 + years preferred, video, phone/intercom, fire alarm)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Project management skills

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

Pay Range for New York, NY: $107,651.64 - $168,378.21

  • Actual Compensation will be dependent upon the individual's qualifications, skills and experience as well as physical work location within the state.
