HNTB is seeking a qualified Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience in planning and designing aviation civil infrastructure and utility projects. This position will have a wide range of responsibilities providing design services for both for internal and external clients. Technical aspects of the role include preparing engineering planning studies; performing infrastructure assessments; preparing plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E); and construction administration. The candidate should have a working knowledge and experience in developing civil geometrics, grading and drainage, pipeline hydraulics, conveyance systems and pump stations, pipeline materials, electric/telecom infrastructure, construction methods, and design criteria used by public agencies and in accordance with FAA Advisory Circulars.
The individual will assist in the technical management of utilities projects on a variety of electrical/telecom, water/wastewater, gas/fuel, road/highway, bridge, rail/transit, runway/taxiway and other airport infrastructure projects. Individual will also assist in client relations, and implement company policies and procedures, including quality control and quality assurance for projects. Individual may also assist with business development, staff direct supervision, and construction and/or field services for utilities projects and programs.
Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assist the Project Manager in the execution of projects at the direction of the manager and other senior staff.
Conduct and assist in utilities planning studies and infrastructure/system assessments.
Coordinate and assist with internal and external clients in development and execution of utilities projects.
Visit job sites and perform field investigations.
Research utilities records and search as-built drawings of public and private utilities.
Prepare technical reports, letters, meeting notes, and memos for development of utilities projects.
Assist in preparing scope of work, budget, schedule, and project reporting.
Prepare plans and specifications, utility maps, exhibits, and other work product deliverables.
Perform quantities take-offs and prepare engineer’s construction cost estimates.
Apply the firm’s production and design standards for work product deliverables.
Apply the firm’s Quality Control/Quality Assurance policy and procedures for work product deliverables.
Assist in marketing efforts, proposal writing, and presentations.
Supervise staff’s and subconsultants’ work efforts of production and field investigations.
Perform construction administration duties on projects relative to utilities.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
5 years relevant experience
An Engineer with 5 to 10 years' current experience in planning and various utilities projects
A working knowledge and level of competency of pipeline hydraulics; conveyance systems (required) and electrical duct bank design (preferred), pipeline materials; construction methods and installation technologies; design criteria used by public agencies; and overall understanding of standard industry practice and FAA Advisory Circulars.
A current PE license in California, or a license in another state with a commitment to achieve California licensure within three years of hire.
Proficiency using drafting software (AutoCAD is required, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microstation are preferred). Experience with Esri ArcGIS and utility modeling software (WaterCAD, XP-SWMM) is also preferred.
Proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Proficiency using Microsoft Project and Access (preferred)
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
