We are seeking Spring/Summer 2025 New Grad Fire Protection Engineers.
This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
Responsibilities Include:
Designing fire protection and notification systems such as automatic fire sprinklers, fire pumps, fire water storage tanks, and standpipes. The design may include preparing the drawing files, editing specifications, hydraulic calculations, technical reports with the requirements.
Reviewing projects for compliance with ICC and NFPA codes.
Providing code compliance reviews and finding solutions to meet the needs of clients.
Performing site visits to document building conditions and fire protection systems.
Classifying and evaluating hazards and risk assessment
Perform condition assessment of existing fire protection systems
Perform calculations: hydraulic analyses related to fluid flow within piping systems, load analysis and duct design for HVAC systems including, fire life safety evaluation
What You'll Do:
Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
Performs other duties as assigned
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
What You'll Bring:
Understanding of fire science, fire hazards and fire protection system code compliance
Ability to present technical topics to our clients for specific fire protection system design elements
Detailed understand of fire detection, alarm and communication systems
Work knowledge of water-based fire suppression systems
What We Prefer:
MS in Fire Protection Engineering
Modeling experience with simulation tools (CFD, FEA)
Autodesk REVIT

The approximate pay range for the California San Francisco Bay Area is $79,008.68 - $118,513.02. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
