The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking an Office Leader for Northern California. This leadership position is responsible for leading all sales, business, operations, delivery and client relationships for multiple Bay area office locations performing planning and design. Drives continued growth with 4for4 delivery for existing foundation clients in the region including: BART, VTA, BATA, CAHSR, International Airports (SFO, SJC, OAK), and other valued clients throughout the region. Possesses a strong understanding of the Bay Area, its governance, and key issues. The successful candidate should be well-know with our transportation client base, elected officials, and key stakeholders. Will have a demonstrated track-record of Discovery and Delivery, which include developing leads, client contacts, winning work, and ensuring profitability.

Responsible for the strategic plan and execution of building an operation that produces $250M in sales, $100M in net revenue and at least 200 employees. Assures client service, staff morale, effective administration, and the development of professionals and staff in the firm. Leads through HNTBs Vision and HNTB Leadership Characteristics.

Job Summary

Manages a large branch office with 100 or more employees. Responsible for gross revenue of $25M+.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for the profitable operation of an office, including business development and revenue generation, client contact, oversight of office operation, cash management and overhead.

  • Ensures the achievement of short and long-term goals for operations, workforce planning, financial performance and growth.

  • Responsible for marketing the firm’s services, acquiring and signing contracts, and serving as the firm’s responsible contact with specific clients.

  • Directs all activities of the office including budgets, sales, cash management and overhead management.

  • Acts as Practice Builder to provide leadership in planning, directing and implementing an aggressive marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to get additional work.

  • Serves as client/project manager for major clients and provides leadership to staff assigned to the projects.

  • Builds a strong and effective team based upon the principles of leadership and empowerment.

  • Attracts experienced staff members, who bring client relationships, strong technical credentials, and a solid reputation.

  • Manages/expands existing client relationships and pursue new client relationships.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develops short and long-term strategic business objectives for the Office.

  • Oversees an Office Management team including Sales, Operations, Delivery, Quality, and Business.

  • Assures implementation of the Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) to pursue and capture the market as identified in the strategic plan. ($250M in sales annually).

  • Develops Client Service Teams (CST) for foundation clients and oversees CST meetings and activities.

  • Plans, directs and controls activities of the Office to meet budget financial objectives in alignment with all HNTB Standards of performance.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations and P&L for the Office and provide strategic direction to successfully achieve its success and overall strategic goals.

  • Assures 4for4 Delivery through implementing of the Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA), overseeing monthly project reviews, and working with Office Delivery to staff and manage the work.

  • Builds and implements effective marketing initiatives to drive positive revenue growth.

  • Works closely with other offices to build integrated and effective solutions and leverage existing customer relationships.

  • Builds a bench of strong leaders and executives that strengthen the offices’ success.

  • Positions people for specific assignments internally and recruits externally as a “talent scout”.

  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with key clients.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree

15 years related experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • Advanced degree preferred plus 15 years related experience

  • PE preferred

  • Transportation experience preferred

  • Knowledge and or experience in the local transportation market is preferred

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
