HNTB Sr. Electrical Engineer in Oakland, California

What We're Looking For

For more than a century, HNTB has been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country.

This opportunity is for a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive facility power and lighting design experience. This position requires engineering analysis and design related to electrical infrastructure, commercial and institutional facilities. Responsible for preparation and completion of electrical engineering efforts in cooperation with multi-disciplinary team. Coordinates preparation of design drawings, calculations, and reports for complex electrical designs. Using current technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. Capable of leading technical discussions and preparing presentations to clients.

As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You'll Do:

  • Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider broad range of engineering solutions.

  • Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.

  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Power distribution system design and electrical infrastructure for buildings, facilities and EV charging stations.

  • Develop basis of design report for electrical components, perform load flow analysis for sizing power distribution systems and

  • Design electrical systems including power, lighting, control and fire alarm systems including preparation of single line diagrams and drawing details for electrical design and selection of electrical equipment and luminaires for projects.

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans. Support project construction phase including RFI and Submittal reviews.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers. Review and monitor design quality of work performed by others.

  • Responsible for preparation and completion of electrical engineering designs that are responsive to project needs. Lead technical communication with client for electrical design components

  • Understands and supports the objectives that are responsible for successful project delivery, recognizing how multiple disciplines influence project development.

What We Prefer:

  • Experience completing PS&E construction packages

  • Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California and/or Washington

  • Experience with e-TAP, AGI32 or related software

  • AutoCAD MEP experience

The approximate pay range for California is $112,206.31 - $199,434.29. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.

The pay range for Washington is $117,306.60 - $183,479.55. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
