HNTB Water Resources Engineer III in Parsippany, New Jersey

What We're Looking For

Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Design of water resources engineering project elements including hydrology/hydraulic studies, hydraulic models, and soil erosion & sediment control measures.

  • Design highway drainage systems, including, but not limited to closed drainage systems, culverts, bridge deck drainage and roadside ditches.

  • Design and analyze stormwater management facilities.

  • Develop and oversee plans, specifications, and technical reports and ensure complete, accurate work, in accordance with good engineering practice.

  • Develop technical resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies.

  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

Water Resource Engineer III

  • Conducts design and constructibility reviews of plans

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with preparation of weekly and monthly program updates and reporting

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies

  • Coordinates with construction observers, consultant engineers, utility coordinators, and right of way coordinators

  • Conducts reviews and makes recommendations of approval of potential construction change orders, utility agreements, and construction & utility pay estimates

  • Updates and maintains master schedule for the program

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of highway drainage and water resources project experience.

  • New Jersey EIT Certification minimum, Professional Engineer License preferred.

  • Experience with NJDOT, NJTA and PANYNJ projects.

  • Experience with NJDEP permitting.

  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated work experience with StormCad, Pond Pack, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS.

  • Experience in ArcGIS preferred.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
