The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer - MEP for our Philadelphia, PA office location.

Job Summary

Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of <$1M.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design of piping systems and piping layout, including piping material selection, piping material line classes, standard and specialty piping components, pressure, weight and thermal analysis of piping systems, vibration analysis and piping support systems

  • Responsible for design of HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, compressed air systems, pumps, distribution, air handling units, controls selection, equipment schedules, calculations and energy efficiency strategies

  • Experience in fueling and fire protection systems design is a plus

  • Responsible for coordination of the work in a multi-disciplined team throughout the course of a project's development

  • Establish client relationships and perform design and production tasks relevant to mechanical systems

  • May assume the mechanical lead role on many projects and participate in reviews with various clients for code compliance

  • Sets the technical standards and procedures of a group of engineers and designers

  • Responsible for a management of the assigned staff, project budget, and project schedule

  • Coordinate workload through the entire project's development, and will be responsible for tracking the financial aspects of the project, and subsequently coordinating and adjusting the work effort with the team as needed

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

6 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 6 years of experience.

  • 7-10+ years of experience is preferred

  • HVAC and/or Plumbing and/or Fire Protection experience is required

  • AutoCAD experience required

  • Revit experience preferred

  • Experience working with clients and managing projects is required

  • PE License desirable


General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
