HNTB Biologist in Plano, Texas

What We're Looking For

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Perform environmental analysis for infrastructure projects

  • Assist with onsite environmental investigation including field reconnaissance, photography, delineation of water resources, habitat assessment, biological surveys, verification of land uses,

  • Collect and organize data and results for reports and presentations

  • Assist with exhibit preparation and GIS mapping

  • Assist with research, development and documentation of projects

  • Assist with analysis of environmental impacts as assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related field preferred

  • Enjoys being outdoors and doing field work including wetland delineation, plant identification, wildlife habitat assessment, biological surveys, and hazardous materials site assessments

  • Awareness or general understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

  • GIS mapping experience

  • Document writing and editing skills

  • Works well in a team setting

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • Familiarity using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under direction of more senior Scientist, follows clearly established methods to assist in conducting research, gathering basic scientific information and data, and conducting and assisting in field investigations among other supporting activities.

  • Based on prescribed methodology, sets up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data.

  • Using established prescribed templates, prepares data analysis, modeling, written reports, maps, etc. as appropriate to support findings as it pertains to the natural or man-made environment in the study area.

  • Under the assistance of a Senior Scientist, prepares assessment of potential effects from construction and/or operation of proposed transportation projects.

  • Maintains administrative records, collections, and files related to specific projects.

  • Keeps current with trends, literature, and new developments in ecology and environmental science as it relates to their specific technical area of proficiency.

  • Assists team in the production of project deliverables.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or related field

Competencies:

  • Analyzes and summarizes data accurately (i.e., reports, wetland delineations, hazmat surveys, noise quality levels, air quality).

  • Research scientific articles and trends to summarize findings for environmental documentation and permits.

  • Assists the field investigator to assess habitat characteristics, identifies issues of environmental concern and completes field surveys.

  • Exercises safety procedures and best practices in the field.

  • Learns established analytical methods.

  • Displays action orientation by taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.

  • Develops oneself by actively seeking new ways to grow and be challenged using formal training, informal learning experiences, and professional development opportunities.

  • Instills trust by gaining the confidence of others through accountability, honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
