HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a Hydraulics Engineer III in our Raleigh, NC office to support our growing transportation practice.
Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Prepare hydrologic/hydraulic studies, develop reports, and design/analyze drainage systems for preliminary and final design.
Participating in the collection and analysis of data
Performing investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks
Developing and checking design calculations
Assisting in the preparation of design drawings and/or specifications
Developing plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice
Calculating quantities and developing cost estimates
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
5 years relevant experience
Minimum of 5 years of hydraulic and hydrology design experience
North Carolina P.E. license required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Proficient in MicroStation and experience utilizing the Geopak Drainage module.
Familiarity with NCDOT drainage design criteria
Experience with HEC-RAS, HY-8, SWMM and HEC-22.
NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Level III Certification
Experience developing environmental permit plans and applications for stream and wetland impacts preferred.

General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
