HNTB Railroad Senior Project Engineer, Team Lead in Raleigh, North Carolina
What We're Looking For
Our Carolinas Office is looking for a motivated and experienced railroad Senior Project Engineer, Team Lead who can utilize their skills to deliver major rail infrastructure projects in this era of unprecedented federal funding for rail projects.
The ideal candidate will be located in our Raleigh office and will be responsible for managing railroad engineering projects and providing technical expertise to a group of 5-7 rail engineers also located in the Raleigh office. We are looking for an engineer who is experienced in project management and track design from the feasibility/conceptual stage through final design and construction.
HNTB is delivering the largest and most complex rail projects in North Carolina and throughout the country - including NCDOT, Amtrak, Brightline, and more. The NCDOT Raleigh to Richmond program, which recently received a $1.1B federal grant, is our most significant local project. HNTB will be delivering the design of the new dedicated passenger-train only gateway into NC's capitol city. You will be a technical expert and leader that can help win and deliver railroad projects for our local and national clients. Candidates should be able to share their experience with others in a way that promotes the development of staff and improves the performance of the whole team.
What You'll Do:
Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider broad range of engineering solutions.
Responsible for the discipline-specific planning, work distribution, and leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Leads discipline delivery on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projects.
Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience

Proficiency in Bentley software products, including OpenRail Designer
