HNTB Rail Systems Construction Manager in San Jose, California

What We're Looking For

Responsible for providing overall field contract administration and coordination on a mega program or mega project of a diverse and complex nature. Supervises assigned staff to verify that the Contractor’s activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design specifications and contractual requirements. Primary on-site liaison between Client, Company Personnel and Contractor for resolution of project issues.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Overseeing the construction activities of construction projects in excess of $200MM. Manage staff assigned to you to support these construction activities.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Construction Management or Engineering

  • Knowledge of various different disciplines within the rail systems industry such as traction power, OCS, third rail, train control signaling, communications and all cabling; ability to integrate between disciplines; knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and track a plus

  • Experience on projects of various modes of transportation such as light rail, heavy rail, commuter rail, streetcar, people mover, etc.

  • Extensive knowledge of the rail transit construction industry with comprehensive understanding of construction process and procedures

  • Ability to negotiate difficult and complex issues and serve as intermediary between design staff and construction representatives

  • Full understanding of construction scheduling including experience with Primavera and MS Project scheduling tools

  • Proficiency in the use of SharePoint, Visio and estimating software

  • Ability to develop estimates for cost and schedule, coordinate with third parties, produce project reports, assure conformance to quality and safety, and suggest ideas to mitigate risk

  • Experience in testing and commissioning, cut-in work into an active system, turnover to operations, and safety certification

  • Experience with dispute resolution procedures including claims recovery procedures such as mediation and arbitration

  • Experience working in contracts with various delivery methods such as Design-Build, CM/GC and P3

  • Experience working with rail transit agencies throughout the West Region

  • Experience working for a rail systems construction contractor a plus

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implements on-site procedures to assist staff in performing their work.

  • Collects data to brief client on project issues and provides possible resolutions.

  • Reviews and drafts responses to Contractor’s correspondence as required.

  • Reads and interpret plans.

  • Monitors Contractor progress and compares with reviewed Progress Schedule.

  • Mentors and trains staff.

  • Administers JPI’s and Budget.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Science or related degree

  • 20 years related experience
