HNTB Rail Systems Field Engineering Specialist in San Jose, California

What We're Looking For

Provides senior proficiency level inspection work to monitor compliance with Rail Systems engineering plans and specifications.

Primary Focus Will Include:

Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections in the related field

  • Coordinate with other inspectors and trades to achieve project goal

  • Develop solutions for field issues

  • Track and process RFIs, submittals, non-conformances and changes

  • Interpret cost estimates and schedules

  • Prepare drawings, construction cost estimates, specifications, technical reports and other contract documents

  • Perform quality reviews of related work

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule

  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of their work and others

  • Assists with project management duties

  • Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects

  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates

  • Performs other duties assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or pursuit of degree in Engineering

  • 8 years relevant experience

  • Experience in various rail system disciplines including design and inspection

  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and gain the support of others

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization

  • Able to take ownership and be accountable for projects and personnel

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to make sound decisions based on site field conditions

  • RWP qualified or capable of receiving training

  • Ability to work successfully and professionally with client contacts

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assesses contractor activities including: inspection, proper installation sequencing, schedule compliance, and contract requirements.

  • Assists in review and modification of schedules, specifications, and drawings in order to identify basic construction or engineering problems.

  • Recommends and applies standard construction techniques and procedures in order to resolve identified problems.

  • Coordinates the activities of survey team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent

  • 8 years construction experience unless otherwise required by state provisions
