HNTB Software Tester II in Tallahassee, Florida

What We're Looking For

HNTB seeks a detail orientated self-starter to serve as a Software Tester on a recently renewed five-year contract supporting FDOT Central Office as their Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) General Engineering Consultant.

As a tester in the TSM&O Software Team, you will ensure the quality of products, features, enhancements, and fixes in the development pipeline using automated and manual tests. This role works closely with developers, product managers, and engineers to improve the quality and speed of software deliverables to our stakeholders. The most significant deliverables being SunGuide, Florida’s Advanced Transportation Management System; and the soon-to-be-developed Statewide Express Lanes Software (SELS).

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to propose improvements to our existing processes to improve the team’s speed, quality, and efficiency. The candidate will require knowledge of the core software testing techniques to perform hands-on testing and drive quality upstream.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Identification, Reporting, and Verification of software findings

  • Supporting Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) software testing

  • Developing test cases and other technical documentation

  • Communicating and Working with others

  • 4-for-4 Delivery

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Transform requirements and mapping documents into a comprehensive test plan.

  • Build test plans with detailed test cases and map requirements to test cases.

  • Communicate the daily progress, issues and risks with the Software Lead and project team.

  • Connect with peers across the state and ensure that specific areas of the system are tested and released on time to meet or exceed the expectations of the stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the engineering and operations management teams to review product requirements and user stories, understand implementation options and their potential impact on testability, and define specific software testing tasks.

  • Work in a development team to iteratively deliver product releases.

  • Utilize analytical skills to assess user, functional and technical requirements.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality assurance, testing, and software development processes.

  • Documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, designs, and other software system components.

  • Document test procedures and results to ensure software system requirements are met.

  • Gather information to support software project management.

  • Document deployed processes, systems, and tools.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with developer tools that improve developer velocity, code quality, and code health (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design and testing, test automation frameworks).

  • Transportation, ITS, TSM&O, Traffic Management Center, or Tolling experience

  • Previous employment as a Software Test Engineer

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook


What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develops moderately complex new applications based on the project requirements document and an understanding of client needs.

  • May lead small projects of limited scope and complexity.

  • Designs user interfaces for web-based applications based on an understanding of data use and client need.

  • Provides user support and solves moderately complex technical problems with legacy applications or systems.

  • Meets with business and technology staff to understand and document system requirements.

  • Thoroughly documents and tests all work produced.

  • Develops programming specifications, logic flow charts and process diagrams.

  • Codes, tests, debugs and refines programs on multiple applications at a moderate difficulty level. May review work performed by junior staff.

  • Continually evaluates work processes and contributes to technology, methodology and process standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related degree

  • 2 years related experience

  • In lieu of education, 6 years related experience
