Overview

The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking a Roadway Department Manager - Engineering for our Tampa, Florida office.

Job Summary

Responsible for direction and supervision of a large professional or technical group. Coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs. Responsible for technical coaching and mentoring and efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

Essential Responsibility

  • Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.

  • Implements and executes the firm’s Sophisticated Sales Approach, Sophisticated Contracting Approach and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SSA, SCA, SDA).

  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and termination of department staff members.

  • Coordinates department activities and assigns priorities and staff to projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for direction and supervision of a large professional/technical group providing project transportation project development, design and engineering services to DOT’s.

  • Coordinate project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs. Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and maintenance of design engineering programs and efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

  • Responsible to lead and/or direct the pursuit of new work to support and grow the department.

  • Assign priorities and staff to jobs.

  • Coordinate time and budget on jobs.

  • Client contact.

  • Quality control.

  • Typically manages 15-30 employee’s.

  • Department revenue usually is in excess of $5 million per year, with a goal to grow to $10 million annually.

  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, development, evaluation, and termination of staff members, establishing and approving budgets for the group, and leading business development and pursuits for the Department.

  • The number of employees directly supervised is typically at least 4.

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.

  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.

  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.

  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

16 years relevant experience

4 years supervisory experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

  • PE license is required.

  • FDOT experience is preferred.

  • Diverse experience in roadway engineering preferred.

  • Existing relationships with public transportation clients in West Florida preferred.

  • Project Management experience is preferred.

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
