HNTB Senior Project Engineer - Traffic/TSM&O in Tampa, Florida

What We're Looking For

Provides coordination of project execution and control in traffic engineering and TSM&O to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned team to ensure completeness and accuracy of effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Technical leadership of traffic engineering and TSM&O tasks as an owner's representative for a multi-billion dollar transportation program.

  • Leadership of transportation planning activities such as travel demand modeling, project traffic forecasting, microsimulation, qualitative analysis, and reporting.

  • Provide strategy and execution of plan to obtain traffic approvals for multiple interchange access requests. Provide review of other consultant work within the program limits.

  • Use advanced traffic engineering approaches to direct roadway geometry, capacity needs, and intersection/interchange configurations.

  • Identify appropriate TSM&O strategies make positive improvements to the traveling public. Strategies are applied to freeway and arterial corridors.

  • Lead preparation or review of traffic concept plans and RFP criteria packages for signing and pavement markings, master signing plans, ITS, signalization, tolling, and lighting. Prepare RFP language, Exhibits, and Attachments. Provide input to the client regarding RFP response adequacy. Answer bid questions, review equipment shop drawings and submittal data, and provide design reviews.

  • Plan and implement emerging technology projects such as connected/ automated vehicles, micro-transit, Mobility as a Service (Maas), and Smart Cities.

  • Complete traffic and ITS cost estimates for construction, operations, and maintenance.

  • Perform lighting analysis using AGi32 or equivalent.

  • Perform voltage drop calculations for ITS and lighting projects.

  • Conduct before and after studies of TSM&O strategies.

  • Identify innovative solutions to complex traffic operational and safety problems using technology.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations regarding traffic, TSM&O, and safety. Inter-agency coordination.

  • Participate in strategic planning and business development activities to support achievement of ITS/Traffic Section growth goals.

  • Successful pursuit and management of Traffic and/or ITS projects and tasks such as ITS design, ITS System Management, Capacity & Safety Analysis, Signal Optimization, Signal Design, Signing/Pavement Markings, and Maintenance of Traffic plan development.

  • Meets schedule milestones, budget constraints and quality benchmarks on assigned projects and tasks.

  • Coordination with clients.

  • Other tasks, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 10 years relevant experience
