This opportunity entails being responsible for performing contract and project administration responsibilities and supporting field engineering functions for projects and programs of a diverse nature. Assists the Resident Engineer or Project Manager with routine to complex contractor activities in order to monitor individual contractor compliance with specifications, plans, and other contract provisions. Provides guidance, training and may lead the work of early career office engineers.

What You'll Do:

  • Assists and acts as when needed, the Resident Engineer and/or Project Manager in the administration of the construction contract. Provides interpretation of contract plans and specifications and reviews contractor's shop drawings and submittals for contract compliance, as applicable.

  • Maintains as-built record drawings, project files and records database including specifications, test results and reports.

  • Keeps inspector's daily report of assigned work activities.

  • Performs reviews for approval of contractor's monthly schedule submittals and pay estimates.

  • Assists in project administration by monitoring internal project controls and claims documentation. Reviews schedules and facilitates resolution in problem situations.

  • Responsible for logging, tracking, and processing requests for information, submittals, change orders, and other project deliverables.

  • Reviews inspector's daily reports for conformance with the project requirements, plans, specifications, quantities, contractor's progress, and as-constructed data.

  • Reviews, assembles, and processes the monthly progress payments.

  • Leads daily assignments, mentors, and trains employees.

  • Monitors internal HNTB project controls as directed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years relevant experience, or

  • Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, or

  • Doctorate degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience with Caltrans construction filing system, lane closure scheduling system, and COZEEP coordination.

  • Experience preparing change orders.

  • Ability to manage 2 to 3 junior Office Engineers and project controls personnel.

  • Knows industry standards and best practices for construction inspection, workmanship, materials, etc.

  • Secures and deploys section/department resources effectively and efficiently.

  • Leads the work of the project team in the absence of the PM/RE/ARE.

  • Performs advanced shop drawing, and submittal and RFIs reviews, as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.

What We Prefer:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer in Training (EIT), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Experience working on Los Angeles Metro projects.

  • Agency safety training certified preferred.

  • Trained in digital construction management software.

The approximate pay range for Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA is $105,071.01 - $164,341.84. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
