What We're Looking For

As railway projects become increasingly complex, the task of accurately analyzing and ensuring their safety while adhering to international railway standards for performance, reliability, and functionality has grown challenging. This demands interdisciplinary expertise, translating technical requirements into operational needs, and applying railway best practices.

The Verification and Validation (V&V) Specialist plays a critical role in assessing railway project requirements across the entire lifecycle to ensure compliance with specified contract requirements and standards for PHA, RAM, Functionality, and Quality. This is accomplished through a structured process using IBM DOORS to validate and verify design submittals, ensuring alignment with project requirements.

This role involves maintaining the daily requirements database in DOORS and providing technical support for project development and delivery, encompassing scope implementation and change management. You'll apply advanced engineering methods, techniques, and analyses to offer solutions, recommendations, and issue resolution. Consistently applying industry and HNTB design standards across projects of varying disciplines, sizes, and complexities. As an advisor on complex projects, you'll contribute technical designs, plans, and specifications in collaboration with internal project team members and external client counterparts.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs independent technical reviews, makes recommendations, and provides technical guidance as requested on complex or unusual engineering projects. Provides direction to resolve technical issues as requested.

  • Provides technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring/support to production staff.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation on complex or unusual engineering projects within discipline.

  • Coordinates technical aspects with client counterpart and teaming partners at local leadership level for work within and across disciplines on complex or unusual engineering projects.

  • Develops and advises on technical consistency within and across disciplines on processes and projects.

  • Ensures same standard and practices are being applied.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 11 year of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

·Demonstrate leadership and management in the area of Verification and Validation processes required to demonstrate the achievement of specified functional and interface characteristics of all high-speed rail systems and the verification required to demonstrate achievement of specified contract requirements as documented in the plans, specifications, Systems, and Sub-systems design documentation and a refined testing and acceptance strategy.

·Utilize IBM Rational Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) software for requirements management as specified in the California High-Speed Rail V&V contract requirements.

·Input V&V submittals and Manage DOORS database whilst adherence to specific project Management plans and monitor correct action directives necessary to comply with the QC plans.

·Provide technical information and professional advice, for DOORS-related issues develop during the course of a project and wider programme.

·Manage and supervise junior V&V staff and sub-consultants in the implementation and execution of V&V database, tracing, Monthly Matrix reports, running scripts, and other related project support duties for V&V.

·Assist in developing and maintaining DOORS database metrics for QC compliance and analytics.

·Assist with the development and deployment of project V&V project plan, best practices, policies, and procedures.

·Utilize Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM) to track and trace technical contract requirements.

·Contribute to the design phase charrettes and advise on potential constructability and quality issues during the construction phase.

Act as the liaison between the current civil works and the future stations, track and rail systems, and rolling stock packages to ensure integration and constructability

What We Prefer:

  • 10 plus years of V&V, system engineering, and constructability experience for large rail projects.

  • Training and experience in Verification & Validation and Systems Engineering.

  • Working towards System Engineering Certification through INCOSE or plan to obtain it.

The approximate pay range for California is $152,983.53 - $277,700.33. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
